Laura Kay McEarl, known on air as Laura McKay, 48, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on April 10th, 2013 while living with her family in Pensacola, FL. A service was held for her on April 17th, 2013 in Pensacola, FL. A memorial celebration will be held at the Weatherford Hotel in Flagstaff on May 18th, 2013 at 7:00pm. A lover of the arts, Laura was a ballerina, actress, disc jockey and secret poet. Although she worked most of her life on air as news reporter and producer, she also practiced cosmetology. An Aquarius born in Little Rock,AR, Laura attended The School of Fine Arts on ballet scholarship before eventually moving into theater, then news. Laura lived her life with the utmost intensity. She had a pure heart, crazy sense of humor and a vivacious passion for the beauty in life.
She is survived by her mother Marilyn, her sister Lisa, and her daughter, Chelsea Schinker-- currently a student at NAU.
Laura was loved everywhere she lived for her positive contributions and fun-loving, good character. She made instant friends from strangers, often adored by people from all walks of life. While she was living in Flagstaff, Laura was involved in the charter school community and could often be found volunteering for humanitarian causes.
Her special place to think was at Moran point, a scenic outlook along the south rim of the Grand Canyon, perfect for watching sunsets. Her favorite band was Steely Dan, she loved coloring books and cartoons and knew an endless amount of trivia about music and the arts. An amazingly unique woman, in her free time, Laura enjoyed contemplating physics, conspiracies and philosophies.
Laura McEarl will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her.
