SHEPARD, Dorothy Irene

(Maiden Name: Hess)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Monday, May 13, 2013 Dorothy I. Shepard Dorothy was born in 1926, in Jerome, Ariz., to Gordon and Rosemary Hess. She passed away on May 7, 2013, in Prescott Valley. In the 10th grade, Dorothy and her mother moved from Jerome to Prescott where Dorothy graduated from Prescott High School. In high school, Dorothy was very active in drama, became a member of the National Honor Society and received the Merit Cup award her senior year. Some of Dorothy's fondest memories of high school where swimming and dances at the "Dells" in Granite Dells and painting the Prescott High School "P". After high school, Dorothy worked as the principal's secretary at Prescott High School and later worked as a secretary at Fort Whipple where she met her husband, Dr. William R. Shepard. Dorothy and Bill raised two children in Prescott, Terri and Billy. She was a leader for them in both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She and her husband also were members of Smoki. She was very active in various community organizations including the Medical Auxiliary and Eastern Star and was devoted to her sisters in PEO Chapter Y, serving as president in 1972. Dorothy lost her beloved Bill in 1985 and is survived by Terri and her husband Glenn Dundas of Prescott; their children, Mattie and Hannah, and Bill and his wife Karen of Phoenix, and their children Billy and Katie. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and nana. Though she had many friends, her family was always the center of her universe. Much of her time was spent attending concerts, recitals, sporting events and ceremonies involving her children and grandchildren. She was an energetic, compassionate, hard worker whose laughter entertained us until the end. She will always remain in our hearts and we are comforted that she is reunited with the love of her life once again and forever. Funeral services and celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at the First Congregational Church, 216 E. Gurley St. A reception will immediately follow in Perkins Hall. Donations for scholarships can be made to PEO, Chapter Y in her honor. Please send to Sharron Benedict, 39 Glen Oaks Drive, Prescott, AZ 86305. The Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to visit and sign the guestbook. Information provided by survivors.
