West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 Mary Alaniz Vasquez, 77, of Avondale died May 8, 2013, from cancer. Ms. Vasquez was born Aug. 6, 1935, in El Reno, Okla., to Emilio and Maria Alaniz. She was a parishioner of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Goodyear and was a volunteer firefighter for Avondale for 10 and half years. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Marcelino Vasquez; three daughters, Evangelina Vasquez, Porfiria Valdez and Mitzi; eight sisters, Margarita Alaniz, Mary Bower, Josie Cordova, Mary Lou Krawietz, Terry Cruz, Eleanor Espinoza, Lupe Hellem and Mary Ellen Tequida; two brothers, Ramon Tequida and Manuel Tequida; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. with a rosary recital at 10 a.m. and a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 E. La Pasada Blvd. in Goodyear.
