HOFER, DeWayne Dale

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 Dr. DeWayne Dale Hofer, 76, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away on May 12, 2013. He was predeceased by his father, Michael P. Hofer. DeWayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara. They were married in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 1, 1962. DeWayne is fondly remembered by mother Mary of Clive, Iowa; sister Joan (Tom) Nielsen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister Darleen (Cal) Schwandt of Clive, Iowa; son Barry (Anne) of Eden Prairie, Minn.; son Scott of Kansas City, Mo.; grandsons Andrew, Thomas and Mark; and other friends and family. DeWayne was born in Bridgewater, S.D., in 1936. He graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1954 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in pre-med from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1958; a B.S.M.D. from the University of South Dakota in 1960; and a doctor of medicine from Northwestern University in 1962. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, DeWayne enjoyed a successful medical career in radiology. One of DeWayne's passions was serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his church. He was eternally grateful for the blessings bestowed upon him and enjoyed a life of helping those less fortunate. Another passion was his family. There was no greater joy than supporting his sons and, more recently, his grandsons, in all of their chosen pursuits. DeWayne loved the outdoors. Raised on a farm in rural South Dakota, he was always drawn to nature, whether it was landscaping at his longtime home in Concordia, Kan., or the natural scenery in his retirement home of Prescott. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to have seen much of the world. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott, Ariz. A memorial service of remembrance will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Prescott, 148 S. Marina St., Prescott, with the Rev. Chris Inman officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will take place at a later date in Freeman, S.D. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Prescott, c/o "DeWayne Hofer Memorial." Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
