Deon Huber Oleson Curtis
Curtis, Deon Huber Oleson 92, of Sun Lakes, AZ, passed away on July 11, 2012. Deon was born in Payson, Utah on August 27, 1919 to Henry Albert Huber and Emma Hicks Huber.
Following her parents' death when Deon was very young, she was adopted by John F. and Grace Oleson. Deon grew up in the Payson area with brothers Robert Earl and Albert Henry, and sisters Orabel (Lentz), Marie (Sabin) and Dene (Bascom).
Deon met her husband Walter Romans Curtis in a fencing class at BYU where she earned her undergraduate degree. They were married January 5, 1945 in Payson. Walter rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army and Deon taught from kindergarten to college as their work and leisure travels took them throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America.
Deon was preceded in death by her husband Walter on August 30, 2001.
She is survived by her son John Curtis of Sun Lakes, AZ; daughter Trish Miller (Lon) of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Pleasant Ward, 800 W. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Albert and Juanita Huber Educational Trust (email ajhuberscholarship@gmail.com for information on how to make donations), or Banner Health Foundation-Hospice, 2025 No. 3rd St., Suite 250, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
