HUGHEY, William Lawrence (Bill)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, May 19, 2013 - William Lawrence Hughey passed away May 14, 2013 in Lake Havasu City, at the age of 82. Bill was born April 5, 1931, in Conway, Ark., to George and Matilda (Michaels) Hughey. At the age of 19, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and proudly served his country for close to four years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Dec. 14, 1954. Following his military service, Bill began a career in the fire service that would culminate after 27 years, mostly with Los Angeles County Fire Department, retiring in 1985 holding the rank of Engineer. Bill and his wife, June, then moved to Victor, Mont., in 1991 and in 2000, relocated and made Lake Havasu City their permanent home. Bill and June were members of the Southwest Baptist Church and among his hobbies was working out at the gym, playing softball and golf, which he was very good at. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, June; son, Scott Hughey and wife, Robin, of York, Maine; daughters, Rhonda Dunlap and husband, Robert, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Janece Brinlee and husband, Gerald, of Henderson, Nev.; sister, Florence Monroe, of Cerritos, Calif.; grandchildren, Kellen Hughey, Rhiannon Melton and Cameron Hughey and great-granddaughter, Ava Melton. Bill will be interred Tuesday at 10 a.m. at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, with Pastor Rex Furman offering words of comfort. Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard with assistance from The Veterans Services Organization.
