The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, May 18, 2013 Douglas Grant Archer, 70, of Chino Valley, Ariz., born Oct. 29, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., passed away May 15, 2013, in Prescott, Ariz. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. May 22, 2013, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Ariz. Arrangements by Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Monday, May 20, 2013 Douglas Grant Archer, 70, of Chino Valley, Ariz. passed away at Prescott YRMC on May 15, 2013. Doug was born in Detroit, Mich., Oct. 29, 1942 to Ray and Laura Archer. He married Shirley A. Wallace on March 10, 1962, and she is still living in Chino Valley, Ariz. He is also survived by his mother, Laura Archer of Phoenix. He has two daughters, Terry Duran of Chino Valley, Lisa Sprague of Prescott Valley; and a son, Ray Archer of Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Archer of Indiana, Russ Archer of Prescott Valley and Joe Archer of Illinois; three sisters, Barb Fredrick, Phyllis Baltsburger of Phoenix and Nancy Sexton of Prescott Valley. Doug is preceded in death by his father, Ray Archer and brother Chuck Archer. Doug grew up in Indiana on a farm and later moved to Phoenix. He joined the Marines in 1958, for four years. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He had a love for NASCAR and was a racecar driver in the early 1960s. In 1968, he moved his family to Michigan and worked in a machine shop for many years. He moved his family back to Arizona in 1982, to be closer to his mom and dad. He was a professional truck driver, until an accident forced him to retire in 1992. Doug is loved very much and was a wonderful husband and father. He will be missed dearly. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
