Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden CLAY HENSHAW BOWERS Clay was born 3 September 1876, the daughter of Albert Laurence and Sophia Craig Rohrer, in Summit Springs, California, and came to Arizona in 1879. She married Edward Franklin bowers, Jr. on 16 October 1901 in Phoenix, and lived in Prescott from 1911 to 1921. Her husband was a Yavapai County Undersheriff who was murdered in 1921. An 1899 graduate of Tempe Normal School, Clay taught at Walnut Grove, Flagstaff, Holbrook, Tuba City, and for 30 years at Riverside School in Phoenix. She was a member of the Arizona Pioneers' Association, Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Christian Scientist. She had four children: Mary and Virginia (twins), Mildred, and Franklin. She died on 8 May 1950 and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery. Donor: Mrs. R. Merritt
