Mrs. Beatrice 'Betty' Barcon, age 89 of Miami, Arizona, passed away at Cobre Valley Community Hospital with her loving family by her side on Monday, December 19, 2005.
She was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico, on July 3, 1916, the loving daughter of Luz (Bustamante) and Salvador Portillo.
Her family moved to Miami, Arizona and on March 25, 1940, she married Robert Barcon. Together they raised one daughter and four sons. Betty and Robert were both active in the community and Catholic Church. Mrs. Barcon succeeded her husband as Miami city council member after his death to finish his term. She organized the first Parent-Teacher Association in the early 1950's.
Mrs. Barcon was named Senior Citizen of the Year in 1990, was an active member of the Bullion Plaza Museum, member of the Gila County Election Board, and Women's Auxiliary of the Mine Mill and Smelter Workers Union. Mrs. Barcon had many friends in the area and will always be remembered for giving so much of her time to the community.
Her husband of 48 years, Robert Barcon, preceded her in death on November 12, 1988.
Mrs. Beatrice 'Betty' Barcon leaves behind in loving memory: 1 Daughter: Helen Toombs of La Habra, California; 4 Sons: Robert Barcon, Jr. of Apache Junction, Arizona, Fred Barcon of Miami, Arizona, Ben Barcon of Chandler, Arizona, David Barcon of Mesa, Arizona; 1 Sister: Vera Campos of Federal Way, Washington; 1 Brother: David Portillo of Apache Junction; 2 Nephews: Hank Balderrama of Federal Way, Washington, Henry Portillo of Texas; Fourteen (14) grandchildren and twenty (20) great grandchildren also survive Mrs. Barcon.

Visitation Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 914 Sullivan St., Miami, AZ. Rosary Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, seven o'clock (7:00 P.M.), Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. Funeral Mass Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at nine o'clock (9:00 A.M.), Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. Interment at Mt. Breeze Memorial Gardens, Miami, Arizona.
Arrangements for Mrs. Barcon were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Miami.
