(Maiden Name: Smith)
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/11/2013
Joyce Setterlund, 79, of Battleview, N.D., and Show Low died Wednesday, June 5, at a Minot, N.D., hospital. She was born July 10, 1933, in Powers Lake, N.D., to William and Mabel (Olson) Smith. She attended country school and then started working at the café in Powers Lake.
Joyce married the love of her life, Robert Setterlund, April 29, 1951, in Beach, N.D. They enjoyed 61 years together until Bobby’s death Aug. 6, 2012.
Joyce was a true farmer/rancher wife, toiling beside Robert in the fields, working the cattle and helping run a successful ranch. She could do any task from sewing (she was an excellent seamstress), gardening and cooking. She made a comfortable, warm home both in North Dakota and Arizona. She was known for her cooking and baking, welcoming all to her home, and feeding all who came. For many winters, she worked in Arizona at the flea market, selling jewelry and flower arrangements. Her crocheted doilies were perfection. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview, N.D.
She is survived by her daughters: Sherry Baker of Kiowa, Colo., and Susan Wagley of Duncan; grandchildren: Sheila Morgan, Melissa Sams, Tonia Cox, Justin Van Berkom and Joshiwa Winmann; great-grandchildren: Zachary and Tyler Morgan, Casey, Zoey and Dakota Weinmann, Keagan Cox and Cash Sams; brother-in-law Earl Setterlund and sister-in-law Mildred Skredsvig.
A memorial service was held June 8 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview, N.D. Interment was held at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.
