RICHMOND, SR., Jimmie (Jim) George


Willcox Range News, Willcox, Arizona Tuesday, June 11, 2013 Jimmie “Jim” George Richmond, Sr. was born May 13, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyo. to parents Margie Hancock Richmond and Lester Arthur Richmond. He was born three months early and weighed less than three pounds. The delivering doctor told his grandmother that he had a million-to-one chance to survive. He passed from this life June 5, 2013. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce; sons: Jimmie Jr. (Tommy) from Gulfport, Miss. and Jeff (Jennifer) from Valrico, Fla.; and a daughter Jennifer (Eric) Hoover of Prescott, Ariz.; six grandsons: Joey Richmond, Bradley Richmond, Travis Richmond, Brandon Richmond, Jaran Hoover and Easton Hoover; and one granddaughter, Jenise Marie Hoover. Jim is also survived by his sisters: Jonie (Kenny) Clark from Mesa, Ariz. and Jan (Mitch) Holloway from Tempe, Ariz.; his brother Jerry (Cindy) Richmond of Cheyenne; and his mother Margie Richmond of Cheyenne. Jim believed in being of service to the community. He served 10 years as a volunteer with the Selective Service Board (maximum you can serve with them). He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years. During the Christmas holidays he could be seen as Santa. Jim also volunteered his time for about eight years at the Rex Allen Theater. On Jan. 1, 2002 he retired from the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad after working for them for 37-and-a-half years, and that is when Joyce and Jim moved to Willcox, Ariz. Jim graduated from Cheyenne High School, Cheyenne School of Commerce, and received a certificate in railroad transportation. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, and a Master’s in elementary education from Grand Canyon University. Jim served his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as Sunday School President, Bishop, High Council, Stake Young Men’s President, and various scout positions as well as counselor in various bishoprics. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Willcox Chapel, with viewing one hour prior to the funeral. Graveside Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 17, at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens, in Cheyenne, Wyo. A visitation will be from Noon to 1 p.m. at Wiederspahn –Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes prior to the graveside service.
