PETERSON, Donald

The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, June 19, 2013 Donald Peterson, 90, passed away June 10 unexpectedly at his home in Wickenburg. He was born to parents Gustave and Jennie Dot Peterson in Santaquin, Utah. He graduated from Payson High School and spent the early days of his career working construction jobs in Utah, California and Washington. He and his wife Arlene were married on March 5, 1955 in Provo, Utah, and later solemnized their vows in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a faithful and life-long member of the LDS Church. The main part of his career was as a structural engineer in the field and Contracts Administration Offices of the Bureau of Reclamation in various jobs in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Arizona. He also worked for the Corps of Engineers in Illinois. After many moves and relocations (including a 13-year stint as snowbirds between Phoenix and Bountiful, Utah), Donald and Arlene retired to Wickenburg in 1998. Despite his advanced age, he could be seen daily working in his yard, which he enjoyed. He is survived by his wife Arlene; children Valerie, Brent (Rachel) and Janine; grandchildren Brian, Scott (Becky), Tom (Terriann), Lana (Andrew) Bottomfield, DaNae and Joshua; and great-grandchildren Amelia, Roman and Adam. He was preceded in death by son Alan, grandsons Mark and Matthew, sister Gael Averett; and his parents, Gustave and Jennie Dot. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday (June 20) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Wickenburg Ward Building, with visitation one hour prior to services. The family suggests any memorials be made in Donald Peterson’s name to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church at www.pef.lds.org. Friends may offer online condolences at www.wickenburgfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory.
