Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Friday, June 21, 2013 - Jesse B. Porter, Jr., age 82, of Lake Havasu City, and formerly of Wilmette, Ill., Northbrook, Ill., and Three Lakes, Wis., died June 17, 2013 at his home in Lake Havasu City. He was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Chicago, to Jesse B. and Sarah (Berry) Porter. In the early 1940s his family moved to Skokie, Ill., where he graduated from Niles Township High School in 1949. After one year at Southern Illinois University he enlisted in the Army. He served until 1955 and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Jesse joined his father’s business, Uptown Dental Laboratory as a dental technician from which he retired as President in 1997. As well as being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor, he was an avid musky fisherman, hunter and trap shooter. He loved boating, snowmobiling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Barbara E. (Sjostrom) Porter; three children, Jesse B. ‘Chip’ (Sherry) Porter, of Lake Zurich, Matthew R. Porter, of McHenry, Pamela A. (Dan) Mahachek, of Arlington Heights; four stepchildren, David Barnard, Lisa (Greg) Risinger, Lynn (Jim) O’Toole, Laura (P.J.) Caranni; grandchildren, Kirk Porter, Erik Porter, Thomas Mahachek, Jennifer Mahachek, Sean Mahachek; two sisters, Sally Phipps, Betty (Wade) Weisman; brother-in-law, Geoffrey Sjostrom; and a sister-in-law, Marian Sjostrom. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary Roberts Barnard, in 1993 and his parents. A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at noon, Saturday, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
