BIXBY,
Clyde Wilson
The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/21/2013
Clyde Bixby went to heaven to be with his wife Peggy on Father’s Day, June 16, 2013. He was born in Merion, Iowa, in 1921.
In 1938, at age 17, he joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the battleship U.S.S. Mississippi, destroyer Fall River, aircraft carrier Rudyerd Bay and aircraft carrier Shangri-La as head engineer. He retired from the Navy after 20 years as a chief petty officer. Clyde loved his country and the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the greatest generation who fought during World War II.
Clyde and his wife Peggy (Margaret Ursula Gillick) raised three children: Chuck, Roy and Mag in Lakeside, Calif., where he was president of the Lakeside Union School District PTA for several years and coached little league. After living in Lakeside for 18 years, Clyde and Peggy moved to Show Low, where he built their home.
Clyde was most proud of his four grandsons: Chris Bixby of Lakeside, Calif., K.C. Cooley of Show Low, Charlee Bixby of Alpine, Calif., Jake Cooley of Phoenix and great-grandchildren Lucas and Alexis Cooley.
He always looked forward to his annual fishing trip to the White River with his children and grandchildren.
