Yuma Sun, Yuma, Arizona - Published in The Yuma Sun on June 22, 2013 - George William Norton, age 91 passed away June 18, 2013. George was preceded in death by Hortense his wife of 66 years, son, George W. Norton, Jr., parents Charles and Amelia Norton, brothers Edward and Charles Norton. George is survived by his daughter Patricia Norton (John) Trias, granddaughter Brenda Norton (Glenn) Evans, Great grandchildren, Thomas Clark, Kimberly Clark, Kaylee Clark, Joel and Emma Evans, sisters, Carmenlita Lekan, Mary Wilcox, brothers Albert Norton, and Richard Norton. George was blessed to have many nieces and nephews. George was born in Yuma, Arizona. He was very proud being a member of the George W. Norton I territorial family. Dad loved to share stories about being raised on the homestead and attending a one room school house with his brothers out in the Antelope Valley and Dome Valleys near Yuma. George met his wife-to-be at a dance at the American Legion. It was love at first sight. Dad really was an expert dancer and was the envy of anyone who saw him dance the jitter-bug. Dad even set up a dance lessons to teach his brothers and pals how to dance. Everyone danced "Norton Style." George graduated from Yuma High School. Later George and Hortense were married; moved to Tucson after his discharge from the Army. He was very highly decorated. He saw action on D-Day and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was with the Yankee Division. George worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 43 years and retired in 1982. George was a great bowler and loved being on his Elk's Bowling Team. He served for many years on the Tucson Bowling Association. He was very active with the Knights of Columbus and held many offices there. George was an avid gardener. His neighbors were always given his vegetables. He had a green thumb. He loved St. Margaret's Church and was always ready to help until his health kept him from being active. George will always be remembered as a gentle and kind man who loved his family without limit. He will be sorely missed by our dearest friends, Sandy Estrada, Guadalupe Terraza and Gena Rodriques A special thanks to Valor Care Hospice, Nancy Young, Scarlette and Dr. Herbert Jawlosky. Visitation and Rosary will be held at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave. on Monday, June 24, 2013, from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Mass will be offered at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 300 N.
