Louis Teufel-Shone (51), of Pinon and Williams, AZ died on June 5, 2013. Louis was born in Keams Canyon, AZ on April 3, 1962.
His clan is Bitter Water (Todich’ii’nii), born for Towering House (Kin’yaa’ aanii). Louis graduated from Chinle High School and was runner-up for State Wrestling Champion.
In 1981-1986, he served in the U.S. Marines, was a Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter and was stationed at multiple sites including Quantico, VA and carried out West Pac sea duty on the U.S.S. Ranger serving in Okinawa, Japan; the Philippines and Diego Garcia in the Pacific Ocean.
He was part of the All Navajo Platoon, developed to commemorate the Navajo Code Talkers. He was also a decorated member of the U.S. Marines’ Wrestling and Bull Riding teams. After his military service, he worked as an Auto Mechanic in Phoenix, AZ. In 1998-2000, he attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ.
Most recently, he was a Fitness Trainer for the Hualapai Tribe and was a Roadman for the Native American Church.
He is preceded in death by Mae J. Begay, and Billie Shone, Sr. and is survived by his wife, Nicolette Teufel-Shone, Helen Shone, Juan Curley, Sr; Polly Curley; Bernice Shone; Bill Shone, Jr., Richard Whitewater; Denny Shonnie; Leon Curley; Melton Curley; Martin Curley; Melvin Curley; Calvin Curley; Calvert Curley; Dean Curley; Darrell Curley; Pearl Curley James; Juan Curley, Jr., and Cara Lee. He has 2 children, a son Colton Shone and a daughter, Autumn Shone, and their mother Regina Yazzie.
He was a healer, philosopher and counselor and in his years as a Roadman helped many people.
