Yuma Sun, Yuma, Arizona - Published in The Yuma Sun on June 23, 2013 - Jonas H. Montalvo born in Mercedes, TX May 2, 1934. He passed away on May 8, 2013. He was preceded in death first by infant daughter, Alexia; parents, Elvira H. and Reverend Jose Montalvo; second wife, Bonita Montalvo; sister, Maria Martinez; wife and mother of all his children, Sylvia Montalvo. Jonas was a Yuma Union High School graduate and member of track and first Criminal wrestling team. Later played Slow Pitch Softball for St. Thomas Mission championship team. Employed with Western Union, a meat cutter for local markets; Richards, El Rancho, and retired as Meat Department Manager for Vons, CA. Later self employed with wife Barbara as hosts to International Students at their home. The bereaved are his wife, Barbara; son, Jonas Ray Montalvo; daughters, Denilia (Neca) Montalvo, Sylvianna Kaplan, Hope Alexandria, four grandchildren; brother, Joel Montalvo; sister, Liz Cordova and many thanks to step-daughter Debbie Wines. Jonas and Barbara were active parishioners and choir members of St Patrick's Parrish, in North Park, San Diego, CA, where commemorative service was held on May 10, 2013.
