WELCHMAN, III, John D.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/25/2013 John D. Welchman III, 66, originally of Davenport, Iowa, died June 22, 2013, in Show Low. John enlisted in the Army in 1966, served in Vietnam in the 35th Corps of Engineers and returned home as staff sergeant before beginning his career in construction. A longtime member of Local 4, John taught carpentry for 30 years before moving to Arizona and continuing in construction until retirement in 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Odelia (Best) Welchman and first wife Renate Welchman. He is survived by sisters Julie Houston and Gail Welchman; brother Lonn Welchman and brother-in-arms John Fell; second wife ToniLynn (Harris) Welchman; daughters: Renata (Welchman) Johnson, Linda (Crausby) Olson, son Howard Crausby; two stepsons, C.J. and Michael; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving, stubborn brother, cherished father and beloved grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with family, looking for his golf balls, photography, wildlife, the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers, being active in the American Legion Post 76 of Show Low, and like all good Iowans, the weather.
