West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 Donald James Johnson Sr., 87, of Goodyear died June 19, 2013. Mr. Johnson was born in Canton, Ohio, and moved to Arizona in 1956. He served in World War II in 1945 and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Arrowhead awards. He married Mary Margaret in 1946 in Ohio. He was a Postal worker for 50 years and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret; one daughter, Susan Rae McColm; and one grandchild, Amanda Nicole Johnson. He is survived by four children, Donald J. Johnson Jr. of Cedar City, Utah, Rebecca Johnson of Glendale, Clark Johnson of Goodyear and Joseph Johnson Sr. of Payson; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m., with a service at 3 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road in Goodyear. Burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N.
