PALMER, Kathleen (Kay)

Bunker Family Funeral & Cremation, Mesa, Arizona Kathleen Ray Palmer March 25, 1926 ~ June 25, 2013 Kathleen Ray Palmer, 87, was the sixth of nine children born to John Alexander and Juanita Stout Ray. “Kay” was born March 25, 1926, on a fruit and dairy farm at Pecos and Gilbert Rds. In 1936, the family moved to Mesa where she attended Webster Elementary, Mesa High School (class of 1943) and ASU. She married Grant Lewis Palmer and had eight children including two sets of twins. Grant died in 1970, leaving Kay to teach school in Maricopa, Thatcher and Queen Creek for 35 years. A former Arizona Mother of the Year, Kay died June 25, 2013 in Mesa. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, David Jordan . She is survived by her children Grant Lewis, Jr. (Cindy), Winston Ray, Monty G. (Janis), Jonathan Knight (Kathy), (Larissa Croy Palmer), Lana Dalton (Paul), Lila Shoemaker (Dan), and Cary Alma (Jeanne), as well as her sister, Lurline Russell, and a brother, Dewey Ray (Ina). She has 36 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and four more on the way. She was fun and flashy, and will be greatly missed. Visitation is Friday, June 28, 2013 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services are Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9 AM at the LDS Fairfield Ward, 4640 East Holmes, Mesa, 85206.
