Roland Harvey Olson, "Ron," "Uncle Rollie," went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. After a battle with cancer, his spirit remained strong and he continued to put everyone's feelings and needs before his own.
Ron was born on Oct. 8, 1941, in Albuquerque, N.M., to James E. Olson and Mary L. Olson. Growing up, he was involved and excelled in all sports, wrestling and football being his favorites. He also enjoyed racing jalopies and go-carts.
Ron moved to Kingman in 1968, where he was later married and had two daughters, Tiffany and Lisa. He worked in all aspects of construction and had a hand in recreating the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City.
While hunting, fishing, bowling, softball, auto mechanizing and being outdoors were all things he enjoyed, his true passion was woodworking. He eventually opened his own cabinet and woodworking business, Ron's Custom Cabinets and Woodworks. He was an elite craftsman; his artistry was magical and lives in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to possess his creations.
He had a big heart, would do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat, and was an exceptional husband, father, grampy, brother, "favorite" uncle and friend. His huge hugs and big handshakes will be missed but never forgotten.
Ron is survived by his wife, Pati Olson; two children, Tiffany (Rusty) Leo, Lisa (John) Olson-Morris; grandchildren, Tanner and Adison Leo; stepchildren, Bob Hartigan, Steve Hartigan, Bill Applewhite, Tonnie Smith and Kelly Applewhite; sister, Janet (Don) Edwards; nieces, Vicky Olson, Natalie (Edwards) Lavely, Kimber Olson; nephews, Edmond Hamic, Rory Hamic, Elton Edwards, Darin Edwards and Marty Edwards; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Olson and Mary L. Sterling; a brother, Victor Olson; a sister, JoAnn Hamic; and a nephew, Charlton Olson.
After a private burial officiated by friend and pastor Tom Heflin, where pallbearers will include Rusty Leo, Tanner Leo, Ray Leo, John Morris, Marty Edwards, Elton Edwards and Darin Edwards, there will be a celebration of life which we invite you to attend at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at College Park Baptist Church, 1990 E. Jagerson Ave., Kingman.
