Elsie Gatcomb was born in Canton, Ohio, on May 4, 1923, and passed away in Naples, Fla., on June 27, 2013.
Elsie obtained her bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University in the late 1950s while working full time and became a special education teacher. She then attained her master's in psychology and worked for many years as a school psychologist with the Seattle Public School district.
A lifelong quilter, Elsie was a member of several quilt clubs in every city she lived in, and was instrumental in starting more than one group. She did of all her quilting by hand, created many of her own designs, and won a number of ribbons in quilt competitions.
Elsie had a great love for travel and toured not only the United States, but also visited many countries around the world including China, Russia and Panama.
Elsie was very generous with her time, talent and treasures, and willingly lent a hand to anyone in need. In the past six years, she divided her time between Florida and Arizona and made many friends in both locations.
She is survived by daughter Pam Mason and son-in-law Bob Massarotti, grandson TJ Mason, great-grandchildren Amber Mason and Chris Mason, and great-great-grandson Warren Mason. She is also survived by sister Dorothy Caley of Boise, Idaho.
