Isabelle F. Hollender, 90, former resident of Nutrioso, died Jan. 16, 2013, at Solterra Senior Living in Lakeside. She was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the only child of Lewis L. and Isabelle Mulet Frankford.
She grew up in West Hempstead, Long Island, and attended the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. Upon graduation, she worked as a translator for a bank on Fifth Avenue. Isabelle lived the majority of her life in the NYC metropolitan area, relocating to Ashville, N.C., in 1976 when her husband retired. She was a modern day pioneer, driving west in 1989 and building a new home in Nutrioso, where she enjoyed living in the wide open country.
Isabelle was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and artist. She was always involved in the arts and loved to travel. She made many friends during her lifetime and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons: Richard G. of Wilmington, Del.; Robert L. (Mary) of Manville, N.J.; and Thomas W. (Leighayn Green) of Nutrioso; three granddaughters: Jordan H. O’Regan, Alison R. Hollender and Nadine Nikelle Hollender; and two great-grandsons.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband Richard Louis Hollender and her parents.
A memorial service will be held later this year.
