John "Jack" Thomas Grimshaw, 91, born April 20, 1922, in Killingly, Conn., to John Henry and Mary (Blanchard) Grimshaw, passed away June 30, 2013 in Lake Havasu City.
During his early years, he worked various jobs and had several businesses. He was most proud of his years with the Connecticut State Police Emergency Division, where he received marksmanship awards. Being very athletic, in his youth he was scouted by major league baseball teams. Snow skiing and ice-skating brightened his winters until retirement; he would reminisce about doing tricks on barrel skis and axles on ice skates.
Enjoying travel, as an avid golfer he played all over the country. Fishing, another passion enjoyed throughout the country, he always returned to Connecticut to spend fishing season’s opening day with his son. In his late 60’s taking up dancing on roller skates, he traveled to the Pocono’s for competitions, winning a silver medal.
In Havasu he enjoyed fishing, the Aquatic Center, the Senior Center and most of all, playing Bunco around town. Jack relocated to Lake Havasu in March of 2008 from East Hampton, Conn. He was a member of the Desert Singles, Moose Lodge, Eagles and a life member of the ELKS Lodge.
All who knew him will miss him; his greatest passion was life and he enjoyed it to the fullest bringing smiles where ever he went.
Jack is survived by his son, John T. Grimshaw, Jr., Connecticut; daughter, Melaney (Norman) McHale, Lake Havasu City; sister, Jennette Burbrick and granddaughter, Katelyn Grimshaw, both of Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael; sisters, Thereasa Rygielski, Mary Gunthner and Mariea.
The Elks will honor him with a Lodge of Sorrow, Aug. 20 at their meeting.
