On July 5th, 2013, Willard Harris “Bud” Whipple quietly passed away in his sleep at the age of 85 in Mesa, Arizona.
He was born on August 13, 1927 to Willard and Reva Whipple in El Paso, Texas. Bud graduated from Austin High School in 1945, served in the Army during WWII, served a mission for the LDS church in Mexico and Guatemala, then married his sweetheart Virginia Brinton in the Mesa temple on September 8, 1950. They lived in El Paso, Texas for 27 years then moved to Mesa. Bud worked most of his life in the Insurance industry.
After he retired, he and Virginia served three missions together for the LDS Church in Mexico City, Monterey, Mexico, and Montevideo, Uruguay. They also served many years in the Mesa LDS temple.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his siblings, Norma Clark, Reva Maurine Bishop, Betty Haymore, Richard, Lynn Mullen, and Harold Mullen, and his grandson Zachary Whipple.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Willard and Nadine, Joan and Paul Farnsworth, David and Shannon, Tom and Luzetta, and Rob and Jenny, and by 26 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Eunice Anderson, Barbara Taylor, Coy Newren, and Gerald.
The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Citrus Manor Assisted Living facility for the warm and tender care they showed our father and mother the last few months of their lives.
A viewing will be held at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, on Friday, July 12th from 6-8 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday July 13th at the LDS building at 1415 E. Southern at 10:00 AM. There will be a viewing at 9:00 AM prior to the funeral.
