Obituary from Arizona Republic:
Oma Meyer of Surprise, Arizona, died on Thanksgiving November 25, 2004 in a two car collision. She and her husband were on their way to their granddaughters home for Thanksgiving dinner when their van was hit in the passenger side by a driver who failed to yield from a stop sign.
She was killed instantly. Oma, known to many as Onnie or Nana, was born in Kansas and then moved to Iowa with her family where she met her husband Glen. They were high school sweethearts, married and then had their first daughter, Bonnie. They moved to Minnesota where Onnie worked as both an oral surgeons assistant and a medical secretary.
She then had her second daughter, Marlyce. In her mid thirties, Onnie moved her family to San Diego, California where she continued her work as a medical, secretary. She saw her children graduate high school and marry and was blessed with two grandchildren, Jennifer and Derek. Onnie wore many hats while in San Diego.
She was a business owner, a teacher's assistant, and Elder in her church. When her younger daughter re-married Onnie gained two more grandchildren, Dierdre and Holly, from the four grandchildren Glen and Onnie were gifted with 7 great grand-daughters, Alison, Faith, Erin Cooksey, Nicki Skertich, Delaney Leslie and twins Ella and Olivia Silvestri.
Oma filled her heart and her home with memories of loved ones, family and friends. She had a wonderfully compassionate heart and often opened her home to people in need. Her love of animals, particularly dogs, was apparent in the great care she took with her pets.
Oma's hobbies included sewing, knitting, stitchwork, crochet, painting and she would often be found picking the leaves out of her beautiful garden. Oma took great pride in her family's accomplishments and was ever supportive. She was the strong shoulder to cry on with a soft heart.
Always good in a crisis, her family could count on her to be there. She leaves behind a husband, two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great granddaughters.
We love you Nana, and you will be missed
