Philip Alma Petersen

Philip Alma Petersen, 89, passed away July 10, 2013 in Gilbert Arizona. He moved from San Diego after 45 years to become a resident of Gilbert in 1991. He died as a result of complications from Parkinson's.
Born April 16, 1923 in Ferron, Utah to Wilford Christen Petersen and Lillian Foote Petersen. Married Kathleen Brimhall January 6, 1945. Received a Masters Degree from San Diego State University in Education. Worked 35 years for the San Diego Unified School District as a teacher, principle, and Director of Secondary Education. Served 23 years in the Naval Air Reserve and retired with the rank of Captain.
Served in the LDS church as a Bishop, and Stake President. He and his wife served a mission in England, and as Directors of the Arizona Visitor's Center.
Philip is survived by his spouse, and children; Carol Petersen wife of his deceased son P. Brent Petersen, Lani P. Reynolds and her husband, William, Angela Petersen, and Jeffrey L. Petersen and his wife, Linnette; 16 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren; three brothers, David Petersen and his wife JoAnn, Nolan Petersen and his wife Suzanne, and Stephen Petersen and his wife Joyce; and brother-in-law, Grant Gunnel, and sister-in-law, Rosie Jarvis.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM, August 3rd, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, Gilbert Ward, located at 1150 West Elliot Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85233. Extended family and guests are welcome to come visit with the family at 10:00 AM. Internment was at the Mesa City Cemetery.
