Aileen Courteen Contin passed away Thursday, June 20 in Cumming, GA. She was 84 years old.
Mrs Contin was born Feb 23, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Herbert and Josephine Courteen. She attended Milwaukee-Downer Seminary.
In 1950, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in International Relations. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gama.
After living in San Francisco, she worked for the United States Embassy in El Salvador and Caracas, Venezuela. While living in Caracas, she met and married Dino Contin from Aquileia, Italy.
Aileen and Dino resided in Caracas, Venezuela, for more than 30 years and raised one daughter, Diana Contin Delaney.
When Dino retired in 1990, Aileen and her husband spent six months in Cervignano, Italy, and six months in Wickenburg. After Dino passed away in 2001, Aileen resided in Wickenburg full time until 2011, when she moved to Cumming, GA, to be closer to her daughter Diana and her family.
Many remember Aileen as an astute bridge player. She was able to make lifelong friends in Venezuela, Italy, Arizona and Georgia by playing bridge multiple times during the week. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, played tennis and spoke three languages.
Aileen is survived by her daughter Diana Contin Delaney of Cumming, GA; son-in-law Scott Delaney and granddaughter Alyssa Delaney; nieces Barbara Rose of Ventura, Calif., and Suzy Bjerke of Wickenburg; nephews Dallas C Gant of Wickenburg and Bart Fowler of La Quinta, Calif; as well as several great nephews and a great niece.
Aileen will be buried in Wickenburg at St Alban's Episcopal Church beside her husband Dino Contin. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Wickenburg Community Hospital.
