Ruth (Ruthie) Elizabeth Sherman passed away July 10, 2013 in Fruita, Colo., with her son, David, by her side.
She was born Oct. 3, 1925, in San Diego, Calif., to John and Hulda Froemming. She loved living in San Diego, growing up with her older sister, May.
On Oct. 13, 1949, she married the love of her life: James W. Sherman. Then she went on to have many adventures, starting with a move to northern Minnesota where her husband grew up. It was a big culture shock for a young city girl. But they were in love, so that is all that mattered.
Ruthie and her husband moved often, with time in Minnesota and California. When her husband retired, they built a home in Lake Havasu City, where they resided for more than 25 years. Ruth loved the climate there. (No snow.) Also, she loved being active in her church — Community Presbyterian. She was a member of the bell choir, orchestra and choir. She was also part of the Barbershop Quartet. She also loved flowers, and planted a garden wherever she lived. She loved to travel. Her big trips were to England and the Holy Lands with her sister, May.
She is survived by sons, David (Rhonda) Sherman, of Grand Junction, Colo., Donald Sherman, of Eau Claire, Wis.; and daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Sigmund, Arlington, Wis.; granddaughters, Jennifer (David) Villa, Worland, Wyo.; Jeannine (Russell) Tobias, Prairie du Sac, Wis., Corie Sherman, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandson, Scott Sherman, Grand Junction, Colo.; great-granddaughters, Carissa, Shania and Alexis Villa and Christina, Adeliah and Zondra Tobias.
A memorial service will take place at Community Presbyterian Church, Lake Havasu City, at 10 a.m., July 23, with a graveside service afterward at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made in Ruthie’s name to Community Presbyterian Church or to the local Humane Society.
