Ricardo “Richard” Epifanio Robles, 92, died peacefully at home in Timberline, on July 6th, 2013 surrounded by friends and family. Richard is survived by his wife, Susie and sister, Elvira Lucero. Richard and Susie have been well-loved members of this community for 35 years, where they moved in 1978. Richard was a volunteer firefighter and board member of the Timberline-Fernwood Fire Department.
Richard was born April 7th, l921 to Conception and Miguel Robles in Winnemucca, Nevada, where he spent most of his childhood, graduating from Humboldt County High in 1941.
Richard enlisted in the Nevada National Guard on June 17th, l941. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, landing at Omaha Beach, fighting across northern France and on to the Battle of the Bulge. On September 11th, 1945, Richard tearfully said goodbye and boarded a ship for home. “After all, we had fought and lived together through six major battles. I will never forget the feelings I had for all my buddies as we rolled across Europe during those dark days.” Richard treasured the reunions he had with them, especially a return to Normandy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of France in 1994.
Richard worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department for 25 years in Whittier California, where he met Phyllis “Susie” Tekus, whom he married on June 4th, l975. He “inherited” five wonderful stepchildren, Paula, Terri, Michael, Arthur and Juliann.
Richard is preceded in death by his siblings, Rogelio, Michael and Eva.
