Arrangements by Hampton Funeral Home. ~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 William Richard "Bill" Lock passed away July 19, 2013, at home in Prescott, Ariz., due to a brief illness. He was born on March 11, 1951, in Elkhart, Ind., to Richard E. and Audrey B. Lock. In 1964, the Lock family moved from Indiana to Southern California, where Bill graduated from Granada Hills High School near Los Angeles in 1969. He went to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a member of the Hotshot crew in the Angeles National Forest, and worked on the Helitack crew, fighting forest fires throughout the state of California. He moved to Prescott in 1997 to be close to his family. He went to work for the City of Prescott in the Parks and Recreation Department as a groundskeeper at Willow and Watson Lakes. Bill was an avid motor-sports fan and loved going to the Phoenix International Raceway for the NASCAR races with his brother, sisters and brothers-in-law, teaching his sisters to "feel the roar of those engines and the smell of the fuel." Being from Indiana, he considered the Indy 500 to be a designated holiday. He was able to make the pilgrimage to "The Brickyard" for the race a few times with his dad and then with his brother, Page. Bill was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Audrey of Prescott; his brother and sister-in- law Page and Mary Lock of Spring, Texas; his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Robert Coombs of Prescott; his sister and brother-in-law Sally and Michael Webb of Prescott Valley; his niece and her husband Stephanie (Webb) and Chris Tilt of Utah; his nephews Connor and Sean Lock of South Carolina; and his great-nephew and great-niece, Dylan and Mackenzie Tilt of Utah. No services will be held and a private cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution, in remembrance of Bill, to your favorite charity.
