Walter Eugene "Gene" Beatty Jr., 85 of Phoenix and Groom Creek, passed away on July 19, 2013. He was born in Phoenix, Ariz. 

Gene served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp and retired as a U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. He retired from KPHO-TV as a Broadcast Engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Glendale #23 F&AM, National Broadcast Society of Phoenix Chapter 9 and an amateur radio operator K7DNN. 

He is survived by his wife Leola Beatty; son William E. (Marti Sue) Beatty; grandchildren Heather (Matthew) Tidball, Gabriel (Melissa) Beatty and Hillary Beatty; and seven great grandchildren. 

A Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Hansen Chapel, 8314 North 7th Street, Phoenix, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
