PAYNE, Gloria P.


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 Gloria P. Payne, 86, born July 14, 1927 in Chicago, Ill., was called home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. In 1945, Gloria married the love of her life, Jerome "Jay" Barfoot and delighted in raising their two daughters. She was heartbroken when Jay passed away in 1959. In 1979, Gloria moved to Prescott, Ariz. where she fell in love with the town. She was an artist and Arizona provided beautiful landscape for her to paint. Gloria married Leslie Marvin Payne in 1983 and enjoyed their years together until he passed away in 1987. An avid gardener, Gloria loved to spend time in her yard. Most of her later years were spent quilting. She was an award winning quilter and left behind the most beautiful quilts to pass down from generation to generation. Family was her true passion, creating countless happy memories to live on for those she left behind. Gloria had two daughters; 10 grandkids; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Alliance Bible Church on Iron Springs Road, Prescott, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
