Kern October 6, 1929 ~ July 21, 2013 Elizabeth Kern, 83, formerly of Orr’s Island, ME, died peacefully at the Hospice Family Care in Prescott, AZ, on July 21, 2013. She was born in Hartford, CT, on October 6, 1929 to Frank and Carolyn Hatch. Liz graduated from Central Connecticut State College in 1962 where she earned a BS degree. In 1965 she earned a master’s degree from the University of Hartford in education. Liz worked her entire career in education, beginning as a teacher in Simsbury, CT. After moving to Maine in 1969, she worked with special needs students until her retirement. She is survived by daughter Susan (Richard) Cottine of Prescott, AZ, son James (Brenda) Kern of Yarmouth, ME, and daughter Margaret Kern of Cottonwood, AZ. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Scott Kern, Cheryl Cottine, and Jennifer (Matthew) Hitchcock. She leaves two sisters, Susan Hatch of York, ME and Marilyn Castle of Eugene, OR. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Joseph Kern and a sister, Barbara Hill.
