BARELA, Loretta Inez

(Maiden Name: Young)

Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 Loretta Inez Barela departed this life on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Hospice of The Valley in Gilbert, Ariz. Loretta was born on April 8, 1935 in San Bernardino, Calif. to Raymond and Guadalupe Young. Throughout her life she was involved in many activities such as scrapbooking, going to sporting events, and always making others laugh. She also enjoyed her time of employment as a nurses assistant and a surgical technician for Gila General Hospital in Globe, Ariz. Loretta Barela was a celebrity of sorts in that she was the University of Arizona Medical Center’s first ever liver transplant patient back in 1992. The reception of this organ then supplied her with more than 20 years of life. Loretta is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Reyes (Richard Archuleta), Joni Barela (Dan Taylor), and Lori Foster (Steve Foster); a son, Ralph Barela; and a granddaughter, Stefanie Taylor. She also leaves behind six sisters, Virginia, Beatrice, Carmen, Dolores, Juanita, Dorothy, and her dearest friend Ginger Sanchez. After donating her body to science, Loretta’s wishes were to not have any services. She will be missed by the many that knew her.
