SORAUF, Grace

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Saturday, July 27, 2013 Grace S. Sorauf, 86, of Santa Cruz, Calif., passed on July 17, 2013. Her family was at her bedside. Grace was born to the late Patrick and Mary Shelsy July 22, 1926, in Pittsfield, Mass. Grace married the love of her life, John G. Sorauf, in 1949. They lived in Phoenix, Ariz., and Erie, Pa., before retiring in Prescott, Ariz. John and Grace were happily married for 48 years. After the death of John Sorauf in 1997, Grace left Prescott and moved to Santa Cruz to be near her children. Grace was a devoted and gifted mother, wife and homemaker. Grace was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Prescott and Most Holy Trinity Church in Sunnyslope, Ariz. Grace volunteered many years for The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the American Red Cross. She had a passion for helping the migrant worker and the disadvantaged community. Grace enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, entertaining and spending time with her family. Grace is survived by one brother, William Shelsy of Pittsfield, Mass.; three children, Christopher and Beth Sorauf of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Jeffery Sorauf of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and or Heartland Hospice of Santa Cruz. The immediate family will have a graveside service in Prescott. Information provided by survivors.
