Louis B. Leyba, 70, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Glendale. He was born Aug. 11, 1942, in Concho, the son of Florian Leyba and Adelaida Baca.
Louis served in the United States Army from 1963-66 in Vietnam. He was a deputy sheriff for Apache County, retiring in 2006, and worked for the St. Johns Police Department for 10 years previously. He was community minded and a great family man. He enjoyed, most of all, his family and was a very helpful person.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Leyba; son Patrick Henry Leyba, both of St. Johns; daughters Tiffany (Daniel) Voss of St. Johns; Rendy (Valarie) Leyba of Glendale; Andreita Medure of St. Johns; brothers: Steven Baca, Pete Baca, Lorenzo Baca, Tommy Najar, Rudy Najar, sisters: Karmen Hanshaw, Mary Leyba; and 10 grandchildren.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray Baca and sister Susie Candelaria.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, with a visitation one hour prior at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. Johns.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow the funeral Mass at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
