HARREL, Gordon Frank


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, August 07, 2013 Gordon Frank Harrel passed away peacefully at his home in Prescott Valley, Ariz. on July 19, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Gloria May on Dec. 4, 2009 and his daughter Lisa Lynn on March 25, 2010. Gordon was born on March 24, 1931 in Ada, Okla. to Gordon Mckinley and Mary Lou Harrel. Gordon had two older sisters, Florence and Minnie Lou (deceased) and one younger brother Richard Cunningham Harrel. Gordon was an "above average" student. His father was a College Professor and he was very proud of his younger brother who is also a College Professor. Gordon had his sites on joining the United States Marine Corp to fulfill his Patriotic Duty to his Country. He joined in 1949 and spent 1950-1952 in the Korean Conflict. Though he would not discuss his time there, it was known that Gordon saw much action. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the USMC, Gordon found employment with OG&E (Oklahoma Gas and Electric) as a Lineman and joined the IBEW Union. Gordon married Betty Selby and had three children, Lisa Lynn (deceased) Lori Leah and Gordon Michael. He headed west after his divorce and settled in Arizona working as a Lineman for APS. After working and traveling around the State of Arizona, he transferred to Prescott and met Gloria May Feroleto, with three kids of her own, Elaine Ann, Joseph Mark and Daniel, they married in 1969. Gordon was a hard working family man. He gave 100 percent to everything he did. He was logical, compassionate and gentle. Gordon truly believed in and lived his life by "The Golden Rule." He had a deep love for the outdoors, fishing, family barbecues, playing horseshoes and chess. He loved animals and as everyone who knew him understood, he loved his little dogs. Gordon was a caring son, a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather, but mostly, he was a true friend to so many who loved him dearly and will miss him deeply. God bless you Dad. A Christian memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Bradshaw Chapel, 8480 E. Valley Road, Prescott Valley, Ariz.
