Ernesto E. Garcia
Ernesto (Ernie) passed peacefully July 28th with his family at his side. Ernie was born February 2nd in Canyon Jemez, MN, to Crecencio and Beneranda Garcia. The eldest of 11 Children, he spent his youth in NM. At 18 he enlisted in the Army. He was soon deployed to Korea, where he was wounded in action. He was awarded the purple heart. Upon discharge he returned to NM to marry his sweetheart, Susanita. The newlyweds then moved to Flagstaff to raise a family. “Ernie” was employed at Navajo Army Depot until retirement.
Ernesto enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid hunter and a great fisherman, passing those skills down to his family. He also enjoyed coaching Little League.
Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Susie, Daughters Patty Connolly, Julia Duran, sisters Lucy Boydston, Bertha Santillan and Grandsons Jason Garcia, and Billy Connolly.
He is survived by his sons Leonard and Steve Garcia, Sisters Marcella, Marie, Ramona, Hazel and Ismaela, Brothers Mauro, Dickie and Cresencio Jr., Grandchildren Tony Duran, Erik Brown, Chad, Nicole and Steven Garcia and Great-grandchildren Destiney Garcia, Randall Whitehead, Ethan and Elijah Connolly.
Ernesto was a kind, caring, and loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Friend. He leaves a void in our lives, but will be forever in our hearts.
Services will be held Monday August 5th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Holy Rosary at 9am followed by Mass at 10am with Military Honors concluding the services and reception to follow. Condolences can be sent via email to norvelowensmortuary.com
