Ine E. Comvalius, 89, of Eastchester, N.Y., formerly of Eagar and New Rochelle, N.Y., died Aug. 5, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born June 7, 1924, in Paramaribo, Suriname, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Martha (James) Comvalius. Ine was a member of St. Simon the Cyrenian Episcopal Church in New Rochelle, N.Y.
She is survivored by her loving daughter, Pearl Pengel; grandson Osei Essed (Rachel); granddaughter Salihah Denman (Michael); three great-grandchildren: Kaila, Isabella and Sparrow; loving niece Ernestine Nahumury (Hanoch) and their children Surya Nahumury and Jamilah Wijnstra and Jamilah’s (Ferre) and Ernestine’s grandchildren Indira and Ingmar. She also leaves behind eight siblings: Dr. Nadia Comvalius, Claudine Comvalius, Rudi Comvalius, Yvonne Comvalius, Lawrence Comvalius, Joyce Brielle, Bernard Comvalius and Ellen Comvalius.
She has been reunited in heaven with her parents and brother Theodore.
Ine attended Teacher’s College in Paramaribo, Suriname, and continued her education in the Teacher’s College in Den Hague, the Netherlands. She then continued her education at Fordham University, completing a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. Ine served in the Women’s Army in Suriname, South America, during World War II. She then taught in the Netherlands. She went on to become a guidance counselor in the Bronx, N.Y. Ine was an inspiration to all who met her and loved by all who knew her.
Friends may call at the Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, N.Y., 10709 on Monday, Aug. 12, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at St. Simon the Cyrenian, 135 Remington Place, New Rochelle, N.Y., 10801.
Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 540 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., 10591, (914) 631-0081.
