SANFORD, Kimberly Joy

(Maiden Name: Shurte)

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, August 11, 2013 Kimberly Joy Shurte Sanford September 28, 1983-August 11, 2012 An energetic, captivating Kimberly Joy Shurte was greeted by her parents, Michael Lee Shurte Sr. and Myrna Joy Kurtz, on Sept. 28, 1983. She was a child of bubbling energy and had a curiosity about everything that surrounded her. She was a warm-hearted, generous and loyal sister to Holly and Mike Jr. Kim's childhood friends became her life-long friends because of her sincere interest in them and her loving ways. Kim's adventurous nature took her away from Prescott, Ariz., to explore Alaska's wilderness, where she enjoyed hiking, beachcombing, and hunting. She became a property manager, overseeing the many cabins and properties of Shaan Seet Corporation in Craig, Alaska. Despite her busy lifestyle, Kim was pursuing a degree in pharmaceuticals and took great pride in her academic successes. While in Craig, Kim met and married Jody Sanford and became mom to his son Kadan. When Jody suffered a debilitating stroke, Kim gained custodial custody of Kadan. As a parent, she made sure that Kadan experienced and took part in many activities. Kim purchased her first home, and her self-sufficiency enabled her to do all the repairs, creating a home for her and her family. Kim's energy, caring and devotion to family and friends was always evident, whether it was sending flowers to her mom or calling a friend to see how they were doing. She was an advocate for the underdog, an animal lover and a faithful friend. Her family and friends miss her dazzling smile, her infectious laughter and her Energizer Bunny intensity. Kim grabbed all there was from life, learned the lessons life taught, and shared her love with everyone. Kimberly's family thanks all those dear friends in Craig, Alaska, who did so much for them following Kim's passing on Aug. 11, 2012. They would also like to thank all the family and friends who reached out to them with love and support. Information provided by survivors.
