BAKER, Geoffrey (Moe) Alexander


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/16/2013 Geoffrey “Moe” Alexander Baker, 88, died peacefully Aug. 10, 2013, in Show Low. He was born Jan. 30, 1925, in the town of Granite, Okla., in Greer County. He was dedicated to his family and to all of his friends. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Baker; daughter Carol Linn and Gary Spore of Show Low; and son Kenny Baker (Holly) of La Mesa, Calif. Geoffrey was the third child of eight, having two surviving brothers: Forrest Baker (Gloria) and Lavon Baker (Patty); and many nieces and nephews. Geoffrey proudly served his country in the Army overseas in Germany and England during World War II. He then returned to San Diego, Calif., where he married the sweetheart of his dreams, Joyce, in 1947. He took pride in his 35-year career at Rohr Aircraft in Chula Vista, Calif. He retired early at 55 and traveled with Joyce to Germany, England, Mexico and throughout the United States. He was a great storyteller, wrote poetry, was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Around the hunting camp, he was nicknamed “Moe” and “Hawkeye” by his buddies. His hobbies were creating costumes for various events, such as St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween, winning many first place contests. He loved going to casinos, playing bingo and poker machines, and was a natural comedian. Geoffrey belonged to the Comedy Club and played pool tournaments at the Superstition Sunrise Resort in Apache Junction, where they lived for 20 years. He will be missed by all.
