The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/16/2013 Debra Madge Gardner, 60, died quietly at home Aug. 4, 2013, after a two-year battle with colon cancer. She was born Feb. 3, 1953, in Holbrook to Smith and June Brewer, the seventh of eight girls. Debbie was a devoted wife and mother, but her real joys in life came from being a grandmother and from working with the primary children at her church. She was a friend to all and always ready to serve or help those in need. She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress. She created many beautiful wedding dresses at night, while working as an executive assistant (typing with accuracy 160 wpm) by day. Many of her leisure hours were spent reading. She is survived by her mother; six sisters; 12 grandchildren (who called her Yaya): Erin Zimmerman (Russ), Lindsey Penner (Justin) and Matthew (A’Shaunti). Funeral services were held Aug. 8 at the Paradise Valley Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3601 E. Shea Blvd. in Phoenix. Interment with graveside services were held Aug. 10 at the Mike Ramsey Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake. She will be missed immensely by all who knew her.
