Powell, May Isabell. On August 25, 2013, May Isabell Hudson Powell of Snowflake, Arizona; passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Arizona due to complications of age.
She was born April 30, 1918 in Wrentham, Massachusetts to Melburn and Jennie Cochran Hudson. Her mother Jennie passed in 1920. Later Melburn married Metta Hansen who cared for and raised May and her three older siblings.
May married Lamar “Jeff” Powell July 22, 1942. They raised a niece as their own: Jean Smith. Together they enjoyed the simple pleasures of being with each other. May loved to travel and collect souvenirs from her trips. She enjoyed many friendships and loved the visitors that came to her home. Family has always been important to her, even in her last days she found joy in bringing them together.
May was proceeded in death by her son: Gordon Louis Cloud, husband, parents, and siblings: Ralph, Everett, Edna, Devore, Wayne, and Kent.
She is survived by her daughter: Jean (Buck) Smith; brother: Larry (Gwen) Hudson; sister-in-law: Doris Hudson; step-son: John Powell; niece: Edna Mae Green and many other dear nieces and nephews; 6 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren who fondly refer to her as Grandma May and love her very much.
She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Main Street Chapel, 48 N. Main Street in Snowflake, Arizona.
Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery located at 1265 Larson Road, Lakeside, Arizona.
