Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Wednesday, August 28, 2013 - Jo Anne Ross Hill, of Lake Havasu City, passed away peacefully at the Polidori House Aug. 23, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Jo Anne was born in Los Angeles, Calif., Jan. 5, 1935, to Lawrence and Nina Ross. Following her birth, she lived in New York City until she was 9, when she returned to Los Angeles. She graduated from Dorsey High School in 1953. She then attended Los Angeles City College before transferring to UCLA. She graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in sociology. Jo Anne entered employment in the Los Angeles County Probation Department in 1957. She remained with the department for 28 years, retiring as a supervisor working with juvenile gangs. While employed in the department she met her future husband, Halvor Hill, whom she married in 1959. Upon retiring she and her husband moved to Mancos, Colo., where they lived for 21 years. They moved to Lake Havasu City in 2006. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nina Ross. She is survived by her brother, Joel Ross, who lives in Colorado; and her husband, Halvor Hill, who lives in Lake Havasu City. Jo Anne was a quiet, modest, generous person who loved sports and was an avid fisherman. She was a crack shot with a pistol and rifle. She loved to read and had what amounted to a small library in her home. Jo Anne’s remains will be cremated. As she wished there will be no funeral or memorial service.
