HASTINGS, Eugene Burton (Burt)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Wednesday, August 28, 2013 - Eugene Burton Hastings went to our Lord Aug. 25, 2013 after a brief illness. He was known as Burt to friends and family, born to Edward & Mary Hastings. He was raised in Dillon, Mont., to the age of 16, and soon after entered the U.S. Navy, stationed in China Lake, Calif. In Bozeman Montana, he met the love of his life, Betty Turner, and they married July 3, 1953, making their home in Bozeman. Burt was a petroleum transport driver providing for a family of six children until his retirement in 1991. Burt and Betty then traveled the country until making their new life in Lake Havasu City, in 1999. In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsmen enjoying hunting, fishing and spending time with family at Canyon Ferry Lake, Mont. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, golfing, and men’s bible study; he was an avid reader and had a love for history. In Bozeman, he was Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 6 and Patron of Lily of the Valley No. 4, as well as volunteering time with the Meals on Wheels. In Lake Havasu, he was active with St. Michael’s United Methodist Church, and was involved with Eastern Star No. 61, as well as volunteering many years with Meals on Wheels through the Havasu Senior Center. He is survived by wife of 60 years, Betty; daughters Chris, Kathy and Sydnie; sons, Gary (Joan), Jay (Kathryn) and Philip (Shalisha) Hastings. A memorial service will be at St. Michael’s United Methodist Church Friday, at 10 a.m., reception to follow.
