Arrangements by Hampton Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Wednesday, September 11, 2013 Florence Davis passed away peacefully at the home of her beloved niece, Patty "Tricia" Davis Allen (Jim Allen), on Sept. 4, 2013. Florence was born to Warren Howland and Vila Austin Howland on Nov. 20, 1916, in Dundee, Iowa, and was raised on the family farm. She was the twelfth of 13 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. On Sept. 15, 1940, Florence married the love of her life, Richard L. "Dick" Davis, in Oelwein, Iowa. After Dickʼs discharge from the Navy in 1944, they moved to Southern California. Although Florence and Dick didnʼt have children of their own, they were both ever-present in the life of their niece, Patty - "Tricia" as they called her. They also assumed the role of Grandma and Grandpa to Pattyʼs two children, Shawn Brown (Keli) of Reno, Nev., and Jennifer Viets (David) of Anahola, Kauai. Florence and Dick spent many years traveling both in the U.S. and abroad and eventually moved to Prescott in 2004 to be near Patty and her husband, Jim. "Uncle Dick" preceded "Aunty Florence" in death Aug. 31, 2006, just days before their 66th wedding anniversary. Florence moved to Granite Gate Senior Living Community in 2007 where she made many friends among residents and staff alike. "Aunty Florence" will be greatly missed by her family and friends. No services will take place at her request. Her ashes will be interred alongside her loving husband and forever sweetheart at the Prescott National Cemetery. Information provided by survivors.
