Kristine Louise Joy
September 12, 1951 - August 30, 2013
On Sept. 12, 1951 Kris was born to Laverne "Chili" and Jean Chilcote.
She was raised in Frankfort, Mich. and was the oldest of three sisters. In 1969, Kris graduated from Frankfort High School and later went to college in Marquette, Mich.
On Nov. 28, 1970, she married her one true love, Robert "Bob" Joy and they spent the next 43 years raising a loving and open family. Kris and Bob raised their children Scott and Nikki in Prescott, Ariz. While Scott and Nikki were their only biological children, the door was always open to friends, and Kris and Bob were eventually "Mom and Dad" to countless others who were always welcome in their home. Danny, Kasi, Kelly, Angie and many others were the "sons and daughters of other mothers" that always had a place in their hearts.
Kris was a fantastic cook, incredible seamstress but most importantly an amazing wife, mother and "nana," daughter and sister. She passed her love and skills along to her children, grandchildren, family and friends far and wide. Kris was known for creating "specialty blankets" that were donated to the National Finals Rodeo and auctioned for charity after having been signed by all of the annual contestants. She was also known for her "dinners" which always had a theme and became a "have to attend" event.
On March 6, 2013, Kris was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. She fought the illness as long and as hard as she could but unfortunately on Aug. 30, 2013, with Bob at her side holding her hand, Kris sadly lost her battle.
In her passing Kris leaves behind her loving husband, Bob; children, Scott (Kylie) and Nikki; grandchildren, Ana, Krysta and Collin; mother, Jean; sisters, Heidi (Allen) and Lisa (Jim); numerous cousins; and an immeasurable number of friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Oncology Unit for their help, patience and expertise during Mom's battle.
Wave to the moon, Mom. We love you and will be waving back.
