Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow, Winslow, Arizona Laura Conatser September 24, 1935 - September 01, 2013 Laura Joan Preston Conatser, 77, passed away on Sept. 1, 2013 in Taos, New Mexico. She was born on Sept. 24, 1935 in Globe, Arizona. Trusted Jesus as Savior when I was 7 years old and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Globe, AZ. Graduated Grand Canyon University in 1957 with high distinction. Member and soloist GCU Choralaires 4 years. Joined First Baptist Church in Winslow in 1959, became a member of the choir in 1959. Sang solos and in ensembles. Choir director for 37 years, organist for 20. Started the “Singing Christmas Tree” when Lonnie Johnson was pastor, which lasted until she retired. Taught Jr. High girls class about 3 years, 2 year old class for 1 year, director of third and fourth grade class about 30 years and director of fifth and sixth grade class about 10 years. Vacation Bible School director for 3rd 4th 5th and 6th grade about 40 years. Girls' Auxiliary leader for Women's Missionary Union about 10 years, Baptist Women president 1 year, Pastor Search Team twice, Worship Team and Church Council. Association Sunday School Leadership Team 2 years. Sang and played piano/organ for many funerals/special events. Selected as citizen of the year in the area of religion in 1982 by the Winslow Chamber of Commerce. Survived by husband David Conatser; sons, Kenneth (Georgia), Douglas, Roger(Joyce); 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Lawrence and parents, Roger and Esther Preston.
