Recharda Benson Ballard Tripp died peacefully in the company of her son, Bruce and granddaughter, Ashley in McKinney at the age of 94 on August 24, 2013.
She was born to a farming family in North Jackson on April 1, 1919. She was the eldest of three sisters. Her parents were Manzer Benson and Mabel (nee Richards) Benson.
After graduating from high school, she entered nursing school in Philadelphia and from there joined the nurse corps as a second lieutenant at the beginning of WWII. While in military service, she met second lieutenant Quentin Ballard. The couple married on March 6, 1944. Recharda and Quentin Ballard had two sons, Mike, born in 1945 and Bruce born in 1951. Captain Quentin Ballard was struck by an automobile and died in Monterey, Calif., in 1952.
Subsequently, Recharda returned to live in Harford until she moved with her sons to Wickenburg, Ariz., in 1954. Recarda married Robert Tripp of Wickenburg in 1956 and the family then moved to San Diego, Calif. In 1960, Recharda and Robert moved the family to Harford. Recarda's second husband succumbed to cancer at the age of 70. That is when Recharda settled in McKinney, Texas, to live near her son, Bruce. Her son, Mike, emigrated to Australia in 2000.
She will be laid to rest at Quentin's grave in the North Jackson cemetery.
